Arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis plays an essential role in the following: objective evaluation of a patient’s oxygenation and ventilation status, monitoring of response to therapeutic interventions (e.g. after administration of supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation or insulin in diabetic ketoacidosis).
