Summary
The rapid switch to ‘genomic’ (genomewide) approaches with analyses that are now possible on several ‘omics’ levels (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabonomics etc.) creates unique challenges to design appropriate, integrated multimarker profi les for so-called personalized medicine. In this article, some of the pitfalls are outlined and the possible future direction of these technologies is indicated along with the implementation challenges for pathology laboratories.
